Víctor Sánchez-Arévalo Lobo

Since the beginning of my university training I had clear my scientific vocation, especially directed to the field of oncology, after my degree in Biology (Molecular and Cellular) from the University of Alcalá and my PhD in Biochemistry from the Autonomous University, I continued my post-doctoral training at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, under the supervision of Dr. Bruno Amati. During that period I described the dual regulation of c-MYC by c-ABL and BCR-ABL, with implications in breast cancer and chronic myeloid leukemia and acquired a deep background in epigenetics. After my return to Spain, I joined Dr. Francisco X Real’s group at the CNIO as a researcher, where we demonstrated the role of c-MYC in the regulation of acinar cell differentiation and its de-regulation during transformation in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. In 2017, I joined the Francisco de Vitoria University (UFV) as an associate professor and researcher leading the molecular oncology group. In 2018, I constitute, thanks to a collaboration agreement between the Department of Anatomic Pathology of the Hospital 12 de Octubre and the University Francisco de Vitoria, the molecular oncology group mixed unit UFV-H12O that I currently direct. These achievements have also allowed me to be a reviewer in different scientific journals (PlosOne, Gut and Nature Communications) and guest editor in Frontiers in Oncology.

Alba Lomas Redondo

Graduated in Biotechnology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Master in Computational Biology from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Currently working as a research assistant at CEIEC. During her academic training she has done internships in several research centers such as IBMCP (Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Plants), i2SysBio (Institute of Integrative Systems Biology), FISABIO or CNB (National Center of Biotechnology) in different projects related to the application of computational tools to solve biological problems. His PhD project will focus on the application of Deep Learning techniques to find a new subtype classification in PDAC.

Andrés Boullosa

Last year student of the Degree in Mathematical Engineering and CEIEC scholarship holder.

Participates in the study of Melanoma classification and immunotherapy selection through histopathological images using Deep Learning techniques.

Carlos Arranz Luque

Last year student of the Degree in Computer Engineering and CEIEC scholarship holder.

Participates in the study of an Artificial Intelligence model capable of classifying encrypted network traffic.

Andrea Grande Vadillo

Graduated in Biomedical Engineering, studying an international school year at the Università Degli Studi di Bologna (Italy) and Master in Machine Learning and Health at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She has participated in biomedical research projects at IiSGM (Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón) in the department of psychiatry (neuroimaging) for the prediction of schizophrenia. He is currently developing his thesis oriented to the application of Deep Learning techniques for the treatment of injuries in the field of physiotherapy.

Juan Pablo Romero Muñoz

Lecturer at the Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine at the UFV. Neurologist at the Brain Injury Unit of the Beata María Ana Hospital in Madrid. Head of the GINDAT research group at the UFV (https://www.ufv.es/neurorrehabilitacion-dano-cerebral/).

Emilio Delgado Martos

Architect by the ETSA of Madrid (2001), Master in Humanities by the UFV (2013) and is preparing his doctoral thesis. Since 2006 he is a professor in the Architecture and Design degrees of the UFV, participating at the same time in different research groups at the UFV. As a professional he directs since 2005 Estudio Arquitectura Hago (estudiohago.com) where he has developed more than 100 projects and built more than 25. During the last years he has given conferences, participated in exhibitions, made international publications and received awards and recognitions among which stands out the nomination for the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2015.

Arturo Ugalde Canitrot

Arturo Ugalde-Canitrot is a consultant clinical neurophysiologist and epileptologist, with a PhD degree in medicine from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He currently works at the Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology Service of Hospital Universitario La Paz (Madrid), with exclusive dedication and leading position at the Epilepsy Unit (clinic, video-EEG and evaluation of epilepsy surgery candidates, paediatric and adult) and in neurophysiological brain monitoring/mapping. He has extended his training at prestigious neuroscientific centres in Cleveland (USA), Milan (Italy), Grenoble (France) and Amsterdam (The Netherlands). In addition, he is a professor of neuroanatomy, nervous system physiology, clinical neurology and neurophysiology at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (UFV), with over 2500 hours of classroom-based teaching, and regularly collaborates in graduate and postgraduate programs of the Medical School at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Biomedical Engineering School at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). He has recently been awarded a certificate of excellence, in consideration as top teacher of the university (UFV) for six consecutive years. He regularly participates in national and international congresses and scientific meetings (mainly Europe, USA, Asia) with over 150 communications and over 70 lectures, also with various publications in journals and books. His main fields of interest are epileptology, video-EEG, sleep medicine, brain stimulation, brain connectivity-networks analysis, artificial intelligence in neuroscience, and biomedical engineering.

Gabriel Furnieles García

Third year student of the Degree in Mathematical Engineering and CEIEC scholarship holder.

Participates in the study of the reconstruction of images of Greek temples, through computer vision techniques and deep learning generative models.

Inés Álvarez de Toledo Llobera

Business Analytics Graduate and final year student of the Degree in Computer Engineering. CEIEC scholarship holder.

She is participating in the study of the evolution, through graphs, of brain functional connectivity throughout the rehabilitation therapy process, by means of deep learning techniques.

Sergio Fernández Rincón

Mathematician with a Master’s Degree in Advanced Mathematics and a Doctorate in Mathematics from the Complutense University of Madrid. He is a specialist in systems of nonlinear partial differential equations of diffusive type, singular perturbation, and applications to competitive dynamics between species. He has collaborated in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology of Princeton and has presented the results of his research at an international level (Princeton, Miami, Taiwan). He is currently a lecturer in the Francisco de Victoria University, and collaborates with the CEIEC on the development of generative models of Deep Learning.

Ana Rus Cano

Ana was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1983, and lives in Chicago, IL, since 2014. She got her PhD after working for firms like IBM, PwC, and Prisa as a Business Developer and Senior Consultant, in the Entertainment, Media and Technology departments. Her latest research and articles are focused on Game Design, and more specific, in the application of Game Analytics, Learning Analytics, and data analysis to improve the design and mechanics of videogames and serious games.

She completed her PhD as part of the e-UCM e-Learning Research Group at Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). She also received the B.S. degree in Computer Science and the M.S. degree in New Technologies from the Francisco de Vitoria University (Madrid), in 2009, the M.S. degree in International Business Advisory from EOI (Industrial Organization School, Madrid), in 2011, and the M.S. degree in Marketing of the Entertainment Business from ESIC Business and Marketing School (Madrid), in 2011.

Dr. Álvaro José García Tejedor

Ph.D. in Biochemistry and passionate about computer science, he has been linked to the University since 1.994. He has been Lecturer in UCM, UC3M and Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, where he is now Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence. He has made compatible for fifteen years his university profile with his work in Consulting and Software Development companies (Indra and Telefonica Data, among others), involved in more than 20 R&D projects mainly in Artificial Intelligence (11 of them in European Programs), leading National and European teams and directing development and innovation departments. He has also been appointed as external consultant by the European Commission for several Research Framework Programs (FP5 and 6).

As a researcher, he started doing mathematical modeling of biological systems. Now his areas of interest are bio-inspired computing (neurocomputing, evolutionary computation), philosophy of AI and serious games. Since 2007 he heads CEIEC, a Research Institute of the UFV for technological innovation with a social accent. He has produced several serious games for transmission of educational and cultural content and integration of people with Intellectual Disabilities. He is also full member of the Academia Española de las Artes y las Ciencias Interactivas. His current work is focused on neural models, deep learning techniques and their applications in several fields. He especially contributes to the practice of eHealth and social care by exploiting massive biomedical data for remote care, diagnostic and optimization.

Roberto Rodríguez Galán

PhD in CC. Mathematics although always he was oriented to Computer Science; he has been linked to the University since 1994. He has been Lecturer in UC3M and Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, where he is now PhD. Professor in the Computer Engineering Deparment. He has made compatible for years his university profile with his work in Technology, Consulting and Software Development companies (Soluziona, Grupo Recreativos Franco, among others), involved in different RDi projects mainly in Artificial Intelligence, leading teams and directing departments related to real-time architectures, SW development and innovation.

As a researcher, he started doing unsupervised neural models for image recognition. Now his areas of interest are Artificial Intelligence as a whole and Deep Learning in particular (unsupervised neurocomputing and its ethical implications) although he likes to try other flavours (online architectures using Kafka, Dockers, Kubernetes, Grafana, MongoDB, etc.). Since 2020 he is collaborating in CEIEC, a Research Institute of the UFV for technological innovation with a social accent. His current work focuses on unsupervised neural models, deep learning techniques and their applications in various sectors.

Ivan Barcia Santos

He has a Degree in Computer Science from UFV. Actually, he is a Lecturer in the Specialties of Robotics and, Cybersecurity and Ethic Hacking.

Ana María Maitín López

Degree in Physics and Master in Biomedical Physics by the Complutense University of Madrid. She currently holds an FPI scholarship for the PhD. Her professional experience includes, among others, the modeling of biological phenomena in the group of cellular mechanics of the UCM, in collaboration with the Hospital 12 de Octubre, and the analysis of statistical properties of electroencephalograms in the UFV, in collaboration with the Hospital Beata María Ana and the CSIC. She currently applies Deep Learning techniques to study electroencephalograms of patients with Parkinson disease.

Fernando Pérez Lara

Final year student of the Degree in Computer Engineering and CEIEC intern.

Participates in the research project focused on the detection of breast cancer using thermal imaging, in order to perform less intrusive and painful tests in the detection of breast tumors.

Enrique Ruiz Ruiz

Javier Caracuel Cayuela

Alejandro Gutierrez Gouverneur

Geophysical Engineer MSc, with experience in data analysis and machine learning in geophysics. Enrolled in a master’s in data science at UAH due to the versatility and enormous potential that this discipline has at present and future. Currently involved in identifying through graphs, the most affected areas of the brain in different stages of Parkinson’s disease using Deep Learning techniques at CEIEC.

Development of specialised web applications in the field of Big Data that allow end users to parameterise processes and consult the status and results of the same.t the Francisco de Vitoria University since 2011.

Vicente García Pla

Vicente García Pla studied Philosophy (specialising in Philosophy of Law and Politics) and Biological Sciences at the University of Valencia. He is working on his PhD Thesis on Biological Evolution at the University of Seville, more specifically on the analysis of the ideology underlying this science.
He is a lecturer at the UFV Polytechnic School, at the University Leadership School, and at the Postgraduate in Economic Intelligence and Security at Icade-Mas Consulting.

Alberto Garcés Jiménez

Telecommunication Engineer by UPM in Spain, with a Master in Middle School Teaching in UAH. Actually he is a PhD candidate in UAH in the field of Artificial Intelligence. He is passionate in teaching, and collaborates with CEIEC in Cognitive Computing, Deep Learning to find strategies for optimising Energetic Efficiency and extract knowledge from Biomedical Big Data. He is also Lecturer in the fields of Data Mining and Robotics and tutor for Degree Projects.
Previously he has been manager in IT companies, renewable energies and construction. He also collaborates as consultant and sales agent for a variety of national and international TELCO companies.

Dr. Alberto Nogales

Alberto Nogales is a Computer Scientist with a Master in Software Engineer and Artificial Intelligence. He earns a PhD in University of Alcalá (Spain) focused in the field of Semantic Web and Social Network Analysis. He has experience in several European research projects and publications in conferences and journals from JCR. His education has been completed working in Technische Universität Wien (Austria), Tallinna Tehnikaülikool (Estonia) and University of Málaga (Spain). Since November 2017 works as PostDoctoral researcher and lecturer at Universidad Francisco de Victoria, at CEIEC research center. Actually is working in Deep Learning and its use in Signal Processing and Predictive Models.

Nacho Moll

His line of research focuses on the study of predictive models with Deep Learning techniques applied to food safety in member countries of the European Union.

Pedro Chazarra

Student in the last year of the Computer Engineering Degree and CEIEC scholarship holder.

He works on modeling EEG graphs of people with epilepsy. To study these graphs, he applies Deep Learning models of the Graph Convolutional Neural Networks type.

Eva Martínez Garcia

Computer Science Engineer and Mathematician from UAM and Masters in Artificial Intelligence from UPC. She is a Natural Language Processing specialist, in particular on Machine Translation, carrying out her thesis in document-level Machine Translation, introducing context information within machine translation systems, and focusing lately on the Deep Learning and Neural approaches. She worked in different research groups specialized in Machine Translation both at national (TALP group at UPC, Speech and Natural Language Technologies Department at VICOMTECH) and international level ( the Uppsala NLP Group at Uppsala Univesitet). She also participated in several projects at local (MODELA, QUALES), national (OpenMT2, TACARDI) and European (ELRI) levels. Her main interests are Machine Translation (neural systems, quality estimation, low-resourced languages, etc.), Natural Language Processing (natural language generation, natural language understanding, speech processing, etc.) and the cross-cutting application of Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques.
