Under the scientific direction of Álvaro García Tejedor, Director of CEIEC, and the supervision of Javier Morales, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Area of Avanade in Spain, the "Avanade-UFV Chair of Artificial Intelligence" focuses on the joint promotion of research in Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning through R&D&I projects that contribute to the participation of all citizens in the benefits of the Information Society by developing cutting-edge technological solutions. To this end, Avanade researchers and the scientific team of CEIEC, in whose facilities the Chair is located, are working together. The results of this research will be published jointly in conferences and scientific journals of impact.
The Chair also aims to train researchers and transfer the know-how acquired through this training and the projects developed to the company. For this reason, each year two students from the University will be awarded grants to carry out their research into new applications of AI in the business world. At the end of the scholarship, the graduates will also have the opportunity to become Avanade employees.
Within the framework of the Chair, dissemination activities such as talks, visits to innovation centres and joint participation in seminars or congresses will be established. The dissemination of the scientific results obtained in the general media is also envisaged. Avanade Iberia and Avanade Europe, which support the Chair, will cover all the financial needs of the programme throughout the two academic years, as well as the supply of the necessary technical equipment.
Renewal of the Agreement
Avanade (a leader in innovation in the digital environment of the Microsoft ecosystem) and the Francisco de Vitoria University have renewed in July 2020 the bi-annual agreement for joint research through the "Avanade-UFV Artificial Intelligence Chair" and the associated scholarship programme.
At the signing ceremony for the renewal of the agreement Álvaro García Tejedor, Director of CEIEC, said about the Chair: "The renewal of the agreement with Avanade is proof that University-Business collaboration in R&D&I is the best way to transfer results and improve the competitiveness of the industry. It also allows us to better train our graduates who will participate, together with their professionals, in the projects we undertake".
Javier Morales, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Area at Avanade Spain, explained the special link between the Chair and the development of business applications: "All the advances and improvements that we achieve thanks to this Chair can be applied directly to our clients, who will immediately benefit from the latest technologies that have just come out of the laboratory and have already been tested".
"In the current context of ensuring business resilience, having excellent professionals and researchers is one of the best ways to differentiate yourself, so attracting the right talent and investing in innovative research is critical. At Avanade we believe in the value of R&D&I as a way to offer the best services to our clients and that is why we remain firmly committed to this research chair and to the Francisco de Vitoria University to bring the results closer to our clients," concluded Silvia Vidal, CEO of Avanade Iberia.
